Hold your baby close to breastfeed

A - ABC of Breast FreedingPositioning

Find a comfortable position and have a drink close to hand. Let your breast fall into its natural position.

  • Hold your baby close to you keeping his head free
  • Baby’s body should be in line
  • Baby’s nose should be opposite your nipple
  • Your position should be comfortable and sustainable
  • Baby’s body should be straight and neck extended as if drinking from a cup
  • Use the opposite arm to the breast you are using to support your baby’s shoulders. Don’t hold the back of his head as he will instinctively push back into your hand and come off the breast.
