ABC Pro! – B

B-ABC-of-Breast-Feeding

 Attachment

  • Your baby’s mouth needs to be wide open. To encourage baby to open his mouth let baby’s lips touch your nipple
  • You need to aim your nipple to the back of your baby’s mouth
    breastfeeding positioning

Hold your baby under the breast

    Why?

    • Run your tongue along the roof of your mouth and notice how the hard palate changes to soft at the back. This is where your nipple needs to be to avoid getting sore.
  • Bring your baby to your breast (not breast to baby as your back will get sore)
  • Chin and bottom lip should touch your breast first
  • Bottom lip should curl outwards
  • Baby should have lots of the areola in his mouth so that it’s only visible at the top (areola is the area surrounding the nipple)
  • It’s almost like a ‘hooking on action’.
