- Baby’s chin is touching your breast 🙂
- Baby’s nose is clear and not squashed into the breast – tuck baby’s bottom in closer to you to free the nose 🙂
- Bottom lip is curled down 🙂
- You can see your baby’s jaw moving at the temples 🙂
- More areola is visible at the top of your baby’s mouth than the bottom 🙂
- Baby is sucking with a rhythm – short sucks to start and then long, slow sucks, finishing with flutter-like sucks 🙂
- You can hear baby swallowing 🙂
- Your baby is calm and you are comfortable 🙂
- Relax! Your baby is well attached and having a good feed.
If you’re not sure or answering no to any of these questions, ask someone to help you check.
If you are in doubt, take baby off the breast and reposition and try again.
